this past month i got to go on tour for a week, which was an absolute blast. i also bought a car, which is weird to me because i didn’t think i’d own a car until i was like 30 or something. this month was cool, now it’s my birthday month and halloween shit will start soon enough. click the picture to enjoy.

going through my list of albums i’m currently into at the moment, it came to my surprise that i haven’t written about this band yet. hank wood & the hammerheads from new york, new york. it also came to my surprise to find out that this band had another lp out. last month all of a sudden it was here. no hype, no mention of it being recorded or whatnot, it just appeared…and i think that’s pretty cool. this thing is real good. it’s mean and nasty just like the first lp, but it’s recorded a little better which i’m not sure i entirely am into, but it’s still real good. the song i posted is called “shook and hungry” and it comes from the previously mentioned new lp, stay home. this band sounds like new york if that makes sense. i imagine these sickos are really into the movie the warriors because this is some straight up 60s psych-garage fightin’ music. get mean and buy this shit before you have to wait for the second press.

this week’s band was shown to me by my friend kamila awhile ago, but i’m just now posting about them now! cub from vancouver, british columbia. the song i posted is called “new york city” and it comes from their 1995 album come out come out. the main thing i really like about this band is that most of the choruses on this album have their drum beats using toms and almost no cymbals. the bass is really heavy in the mix too, so it sounds heavy, but at the same time the vocals and guitars are very cute sounding so you have this clash of pounding drums and bass with nice and pretty sounding guitars and vocals. i’m an absolute sucker for this sound, as most of my favorite bands do this kind of catchy yet heavy thing with their recordings. the reason i’m posting this song is because it’s immediately the first thing i think of when i go to new york, which i did a couple weeks ago on tour. there’s something nostalgic about it, i’m not sure, but it’s definitely something i associate with the city. as far as i can tell this record is sold out, but you could probably find it on discogs if you really wanted a copy.

here’s the mix for july. i went from the bottom to the top and my life has been really freaking awesome since i’ve gotten my new job. it still seems surreal. anyways here’s that mix…click the photo to listen.
