this week’s band is birth deformities from chicago, illinois. their only release was a demo released last year and it is a rager for sure! it’s super catchy and has all the great punk parts you want to hear. vocals give great delivery that you can sing along to. plus most of the songs on this demo are mid-tempo so you can slam-skank with your little sister. i won’t mention what other bands are members of this band, but you know that there’s cred here, no bullshit. this song is called “you’re deformed” and it comes off their 2011 demo that i’ve been talking about. although i don’t know for sure, i’m almost positive this demo is sold out, so do yourself a favor and find this to download…you won’t regret it. there’s supposedly a 7” in the works, but as of right now i don’t know when it’ll be out.

i’ve been busy as hell the past two weeks! even though school has been out, i have still been busy settling into summer life…anyways enough bullshit. this week’s band is going to be an obvious one since i haven’t had time to listen to new music over the past couple weeks. negative approach from detroit, michigan are this week’s music monday. what can i say that hasn’t already been said about this band? nothing. this song is called “ready to fight” and it comes from the first negative approach ep. this is the quintessential, original, mid-west hardcore sound…and don’t even think about owning this record unless you want to pay upward of $300+.

this week’s band is the 12th release on my record label…angry gods from chicago, illinois. angry gods is an extremely heavy sludge metal band with vocals that absolutely kill. believe me the riffs are here and the heaviness is here, but when it normally comes to bands similar in nature the vocals kind of fade into the background. these vocals actually compliment the music so well that it’s hard to imagine this band as instrumental, compared to other sludge and stoner metal bands that have many instrumental songs, riffs, etc. the vocals definitely make this band heavier. i don’t think i’ve been this excited over a demo from the chicago area in a long time. there are tons of new chicago bands popping up right now i know, but this is just too good, especially in a genre / scene that hasn’t really had anything spectacular come up in a couple of years. not to mention that this band brings together some of my favorite bands from when i was a teenager: mans. and scouts honor. the song i posted is called “a bitter harvest” and it comes from their first release called concrete distortionthis will be available to purchase / download for free very very soon from my label, crippled sound. you can snag it at the crippled sound store when it gets put up.

as the semester comes to an end i’m scrambling to get stuff done, which means i don’t have as much time to scour and listen to new music…this week’s band is green day from berkley, california. the song i posted is called “basket case” and it comes from the critically acclaimed 1994 album dookie. this album was one of the first CDs i owned as a kid. i remember my dad used to buy CDs through those “buy one get ten free” cd mailorder programs. this was one of the CDs i got through that in ‘95 or ‘96, i was a fan of green day because of the local radio station that used to play them along with some of my other favorite bands of that time. i was only five or six, but this band, along with the others, played an important role on how i acquired a taste. it’s funny how music can bring you back to a certain time period. fun fact: i recently scored this album on tape a couple weeks ago…and you better believe that i still have that copy on CD! ironically i’m going to post where you can buy the VINYL addition of this album here on amazon.
