this week is la misma from new york city, new york. the song i posted comes from the ground zero compilation put out by toxic state and always restrictions. this song called “saudade” from la misma is probably my favorite track off the comp thus far. i received it in the mail last week and have been jamming it as of lately. this comp is monumental is the best sense of the word. it marks as an indicator that “hey this is what was going on in nyc in 2013.” the great thing about this comp is all the new bands that appear on it. of course you have crazy spirit, hank wood, and dawn of humans, but there are great surprises on this comp, including bands that are making their recording debut on this thing. the art and the packing that went into this release is insane, pick it up or miss out on of the best releases that will stand the test of time. you can buy this from katorga works.

once again another boston band killing it. this week is bloodkrow butcher with their anti-war 7” from boston, massachusettsit’s like boston has it down to a fucking science when it comes to hardcore. they know exactly what they’re doing and they do it well. the song i posted is called “reject” and it comes from the previously mentioned anti-war 7”. it’s catchy, it’s raw, it’s fast, and it makes you want to move around. uk82 done perfectly. i haven’t been able to find a distro or anything that has this in stock, so seems like you’re outta luck kid.

ok so ever since i bought sleep’s dopesmoker on cassette last week, i’ve been listening to them nonstop. sleep is from san jose, california and they play stoner doom metal that inspired my old band maltross like no other. haha we ripped them off in about every song we had. this is the quintessential stoner metal anthem, “dragonaut” and it comes from their album holy mountain. i’ve been rather unproductive and i blame listening to this band haha. i don’t smoke, but if i did this band would sure as hell be my first pick to listen to while under the influence. you can buy this 420 special cassette from southern lord.

here’s a cool punk band from champaign, illinois. under-appreciated (as most hardcore is in this city) and overlooked, laughboy bring something different to a derivative sea of mosh heavy breakdowns and fashion punk posturing. laughboy’s sound is unique mainly because of the guitar work. this band started a very different one, and evolved into a psychedelic mess. something i must say that i do quite enjoy, there definitely needs to be more psych-punk bands! the song i posted is called “braindead” and it comes from their self-titled tape released on lumpy’s (of lumpy and the dumpers fame) tape label, spotted race. unfortunately this tape is gone, but the files have been ripped and put online, do a google search ya nerd!
